Recently, the temperatures dropped to a soul crushing 10 degrees in NYC. Oppose to wallowing in my sorrow, under piles of layers and wool socks partaking in a binge Netflix weekend, I visited my local Target to shop away my sorrows. I was instantly transported to a warmer climate as I perused their new plus size line, Ava and Viv. Lightweight florals, coral colored tops and deep blue jeans awaited me. Perhaps it was complete delusion, but I was most excited for the swimwear. Swimsuit shopping can be a daunting task especially as a plus size woman. However, nowadays more options are available to us thanks to brands like Target. Unfortunately, my local Target did not have any of the two piece swimsuits I had seen online yet, however I did leave with a cute purple one piece, a pair of denim jeans and some beach necessities.
So join me at my excitement over Spring as I patiently await on summer…

How about this swimsuit?! It’s a little more modest than any swimsuits that I currently own, however, that doesn’t deter from it’s cute factor. I love the little cut-outs on the ruffle which gives the extra fabric some character. In terms of support, it has a built in shelf bra and a good thickness to it that helps to smooth out the rolls.
Styling Tips: I plan on pairing my AVAandVIV swimsuit with denim cut-offs. I prefer boyfriend style over tight fitted pairs mainly because I rather just one part of my body restricted at any given point. I can’t imagine being in wet spandex and tight wet shorts! Finish off with a fedora hat, comfy yet chic sandals and a beach bag and you’re set!
Since my local Target didn’t have any sarongs or cover-ups for sale yet, I went with one their many colorful over-sized lightweight scarves. These scarves are so multipurpose-head tie, decorative scarf, sarong, cover-up, knapsack, you name it!
Yes, I am wearing my swimsuit as part of an ensemble. Why not?! If you’re away on vacation, you’re always on the go from beach or pool to lunch to exploring the area. Who knew swimwear was so transitional?!
