If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been posting more workwear looks lately. The change comes as a result of a recent career upgrade. Curating a personal work style begins with understanding the workplace dress code. If your dress code is conservative, chances are you wouldn’t be able to go bare-leg or get away with bright colors or patterns. Don’t worry, you can still bring your personal style and trend into the office. Take my look above for example- plaid is certainly trending this season but to fit the conservative code, add stockings and a blazer or cardigan. Why? It is very easy for a full figure body to exude sex appeal due to our curves so to tone that down, conceal it by layering. I know, it’s totally unfair but ample bust, hips and rear-end is noticeable in practically everything we wear.
If you have more of a business casual code or more startup vibe, there is certainly more room to play. However, don’t fall into the trap of seeing how far you can push the envelope. Regardless on how casual the work environment is, what you wear speaks volumes. It speaks without you uttering a word, so don’t compromise it. Your work style says a lot about you. So make sure it says exactly what you want your co-workers to think. Take pride in what you wear, wear your size,
Lastly, select classic pieces that will last longer. I know it’s a little bit of a budget buster, but the cost per wear far surpasses the initial price. Fabrics like cashmere, silk and wool are closet staples and are always on trend due to their classic aesthetic. There’s a reason why they call on-trend pieces as fast fashion.
