We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.
My favorite quote on traveling. This saying holds so much weight because as we go on with out daily lives filled with routine, we eventually begin to lose our inane ability to learn and grow through exploration. Traveling certainly feeds that. As I get older, traveling becomes a requirement, not a privilege. I view it as the opportunity to reward myself and family with a break from our everyday realities so that we can recharge, rejuvenate and be better employees, students, and ultimately, better people. To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries. Allow yourself to be the judge while becoming enlighten. With that being said, here are a few countries I have on my bucket list for 2018.
Mexico
I began this year with a family trip to Huatulco, Mexico. This trip was all about relaxation and truth be told, pure gluttony lol. The plan was to lounge on the beach and pool while exploring the Pacific side of Mexico through our palettes, the food. The resort we stayed in was a cluster of beachfront condominiums oppose to hotel style. I much prefer this setup as it’s so much more conducive for a family or group setting. Read about my trip here.
Haiti
I was SO looking forward to this trip. For those of you unaware, I’m Haitian and this was my very first time there and I was lucky enough to share the experience of exploring the city of Cap Haitian with my Dad. Because Haiti is part of my heritage, this trip meant so much to me. To finally visit my parents homeland has been on my bucket list for years. I was finally able to check it off this last month, days before my birthday at that! I will be posting about my trip later this week on the blog.
SHOP MY FAVORITE LUGGAGE
Maui
I last visited Hawaii three years ago and had the great opportunity to stay for two weeks and island hop. We were able to stay in Honolulu for one week and flew to the Big Island, the second. Read my Guide to Oahu here. This time around, we will be flying to Maui in July. I C A N N O T wait, you hear me! There’s just something so…magical about Hawaii. From black sand beaches to the majestic waterfalls, I understand why it makes it’s way to every wanderlust list.
SHOP TRAVEL NECESSITIES
Jamaica
I’m going to be honest, out of all the Caribbean islands, Jamaica was never on my list to travel. Don’t get me wrong, I love the music and some of the food (I can’t handle spicy food so that knocks out a lot of their dishes unfortunately), but it wasn’t until I came across this stunning Breathless Resort did it finally make an appearance on the bucket list. I can’t wait to visit in a few months!
It’s SO important to us to get out of our New York City bubble, whether it’s a big trip abroad or just a road trip a few hours away.
I’d love to hear some of your recommendations to the countries I listed.
