I have been patiently waiting on Summer for what seems like years now, thanks to a miserably bitter winter. Summer, to me, is synonymous with outdoor dining, barbecues, grilling, and of course, countless trips to the beach and pool-which directly relates to being half naked among strangers. Yikes! Trust me, as much as I am adamant about self love and confidence, I know all too well the perils of swimsuit shopping. As women, we all go through it. The key is to find that swimsuit that helps build that confidence. Along with that, adding pieces (accessories, pareos, oversize tops, cover-ups) to your whole look that will help ooze my fashion mantra STYLE is not just for the skinny!
I know it’s easier said than done, but I can assure you that if you take the time to shop right and try everything on, you are bound to find a swimsuit that helps you take that extra step towards being the confident plus size woman you so undoubtedly want to become. Target is a great place to begin that search with their awesome Ava and Viv swimswear that caters to the curvy to plus size community. If a one piece is your thing, they have great picks here and if you’re a little more daring, there are quite a selection of graphic bikinis for ya’, like the one I’m wearing below.
Now that we’ve got the swimsuits out the way, let’s talk transitioning from pool/beach to lunch/dinner. When I’m on vacation, it’s usually pool/beach then straight to dining or exploring the area. This is why having cover-ups that work with my bathing suits are key. I especially like to try those that aren’t seen as conventional cover-ups. On my way to a pool party below, I decided to wear my newest Ava and Viv Chevron bikini along with a coordinating Ava and Viv bikini hipster bottom with ruched sides.
I went a different route with my cover-ups. I wore a cute Target Kimono along with the essential summer staple, a pair of linen wide leg pants also from Target that I bought as a result of these flowy bottoms from the Ava and Viv line being unavailable at my local store. If pants aren’t for you, these denim shorts and maxi dresses are fuss-free pieces that can be pulled on and off in a pinch.
Style Note: I attempted to wear my trusty Target Fedora (last seen here), but it wouldn’t fit on my head with my hair in the natural state, so I ditched it. However, it would look so cute with this whole look- just an fyi.
