Okay, I’m going to need summer to slow down a bit-sheesh! Guys, this upcoming weekend is Fourth of July! With Independence day festivities happening left and right here in NYC, there is no shortage of things to do and places to visit. Of course, I’m not one to NOT take advantage of dressing the part, today’s look is my ode to Independence minus the stars.
STRIPES-As a plus size women, we’re told to stay away, far away from this print as it tends to accentuate parts we rather not bring attention to. I say, let them gawk! Honestly, I doubt random strangers would frown down on me as I pass them by in all my stripes glory. And in the event they do, “they’ve got way bigger problems than my size.” But I digress-I fell in love with these wide leg palazzo pants. On my last trip to New York & Company, I came across so many pieces that seem to be made just for me. Transitional from work to weekend, just the way I like it. My chambray top can be worn with just about anything and the pants I can wear to work with a white or navy blazer. However, I’m dying to wear it with a canary yellow blazer, I just have to find me one.

SHOP THE LOOK:
In planning this look for the blog, I just knew I wanted to take them at Brooklyn Bridge Park. It’s known for the iconic Bridge in the background in the pictures. I recently moved to this awesome borough and I couldn’t be more happy. My pictures were taken by an equally amazing photographer, Junior of Blissfulkaos. His eye for detail and attention not to mention how easy he is to work with made this experience memorable. Follow him on instagram for a taste of how exceptional he is.
Oh by the way, for my locals and visitors, below I’ve compiled a few events happening in and around my city.
1- Annual Macys Day Parade: It’s not the Fourth without this fireworks spectacular along the East River which can be seen from both Manhattan and Brooklyn. Thankfully, I can watch from my rooftop deck, but I hear the view from the Brooklyn Bridge is epic!
2- Fire Island: Make a day of it! A quick trip to Fire Island to relax and sun bathe. For those looking for something to do, pay a visit to the historical Fire Island Lighthouse on the island which is a treasure trove of the country’s maritime past. Plus bird watching is an option also.
3- Jones Beach: Weekend trip anyone? Jones beach is a great site for a mini-vacay away from the city. You don’t need a car, as its a quick trip on the L.I.R.R. train. The beach is over 6 miles long and is a favorite for families and singles around. You can surf, sun bathe, bird watch, sail, you name it. Not to mention, they have their own fireworks show, because lets face it, whats the 4th without some fireworks.
What are your Fourth of July plans?
