We all know that fashion is cyclical in that, most trends — even those which we wish to never see again — tend to return in one form or another. So it should come as no surprise that stirrup pants, the often despised fashion icon of the 80s, is making a comeback for 2017. From denim to ponte fabrics, there’s a stirrup version for us all.
While the idea of wearing let alone styling, stirrup pants may make you cringe, it’s time to give them a chance. Today’s versions are sleeker and quite chicer. They go quite well with the athleisure trend as an updated take to the legging. But today I’m sharing how you can turn them into an office-friendly style that take inspiration from your traditional trouser.
I purchased my stirrups here but I’ve seen them at Target and Ann Taylor. Below you’ll find a few of my favorite stirrups in different colors and price points.
Pinstripes and plaid are huge right now! With good reason as they’re a great way to add a classic spin to many contemporary styles. My grey and red plaid print blazer (comes with a skirt and slack option) is from Target’s new line, A New Day., which at under $35, it’s a no brainer to add to my fall wardrobe!

During the 80s, stirrups were strictly worn inside shoes, like I did here. However, I have been seeing them worn outside as well. Which way is your fave?
