What is it about being away on vacation that just throws all inhibitions out the window? It seems that with every trip, I find more and more confidence to wear clothing that I wouldn’t readily wear back home. I no longer have the constraints of everyday life and try to make the most of my time away and build the best memories. It’s almost as if I become someone else, a more confident and brave Sandee. This can be challenging for any woman, especially when it comes to plus size swimwear.
Am I the only person who feels this way?
I asked a few of my friends if their attitude changes while away and nearly all of them commented, yes. Overall, they are the most self conscious while away on vacation with insecurities surfacing everywhere from poolside to beach. It’s interesting because I feel the complete opposite. In the back of my head, I’m thinking, ‘these people are complete strangers to me, slay on girl!’ I know for many women, my girlfriends included, it’s easier said than done. So, here are some tips, to embrace the sexy no-holds-bar YOU on your next trip.
1- Choose the best swimwear
It’s a given that when we look good, we feel good. This mantra should resonate on not just clothing you pack for your get-away, but swimwear you buy. Thankfully, there are so many fashionable swimsuits and cover-ups to choose from available in plus size! Below are some awesome pieces that I’m loving. They’re not only cute, but they’re super supportive especially for us busty gals.
2- Dress Confidently
I believe in wearing whatever makes you comfortable while on any vacation. If you have a style that works for you, go for it. I do suggest you venture out a little bit, and go for clothing you wouldn’t ordinarily choose. Show a little midriff, how about shorts? If you are self-conscious about particular body parts, the décolleté is a very sexy yet classy part of the body to show off. Since last year, there are so many style offerings in off-the-shoulder pieces. Below are some of my faves including a few ensembles I wore from Rue107 in Mexico. I certainly went outside my comfort zone with the Minnie Jumpsuit, that can also work as a cover-up too.
3- Enjoy your environment
Chances are, you’ll be visiting somewhere hot and beautiful. Take that into account. Don’t waste time obsessing on whether your cellulite is showing. Go straight vacation mode and get to know the food and culture of your destination. Use your God given 5 senses and make the best memories for yourself.
4- Vacation With Friends
I’m all for a girls vacay. If you’re lucky enough to have one, feed off their energy. You’ll be surprised at the level of self-confidence that surfaces. Really great friends help you come out your shell and be the best version of you, plus size or not.
My 4 tips may not be for everyone, but I do hope a few of them resonate with you. I can assure you, they’ve certainly worked for me. Just look over my Instagram hastag #CurvEnvyTravels for proof of vacationing the way I want, wearing what I want with no inhibitions. I no longer feel a desire to cover myself up all the time, wear tshirts over my swimsuit, stick to a one piece, you name it. I’ve become much for confidant by following these tips and enjoyed all of my vacays from the Black Sand Beaches of Hawaii to the scorching heat of Cabo San Lucas to the temperamental weather of San Francisco.
